Beverage caps, dispensers

Beverage plastic caps and dispensers are small but frequently encountered waste items. They are found on PET bottles, soft drinks, water bottles and vials, many times made of a separate material than the bottle itself.

Miből készül?

Most often made of HDPE (high density polyethylene) or PP (polypropylene) plastic, which are resistant and close well. They differ in the material of the bottle (usually PET), so their recycling requires special treatment.

Hova dobjuk?

According to MOHU guidelines, beverage caps should be collected selectively unscrewed but attached to the bottle so that they are not lost in the sorter. If you collect it yourself, you can also go to the plastic collector with a yellow lid, but it should not be contaminated (eg oily, soapy).

Miért problémás?

Due to their small size, they easily fall out of the collection system or, getting into nature, can be swallowed by animals. They are difficult to sort and unrecyclable when contaminated. Many throw it unnecessarily separately or in the wrong place.

Gyakran felmerülő kérdések

Can the cap go to the selective?
Yes, both clean and separate, but it is even better to screw it back onto the bottle - so you will definitely not get lost in the sorter.

Why can't I just throw the cap separately?
Because of its small size, it often falls out of the collection system or gets stuck in the machines, so it is recommended to place it unscrewed.

What is the cap made of and why does it not match the bottle?
The cap is typically HDPE or PP, while the bottle is PET — this combination is used due to various physical properties.

What about the dosing head vials?
The bottle can be cleaned and go to the selective. The pump or metal spring dispenser should preferably be discarded separately, as it is a mixed material.

Should I collect caps for charity?
In several places it is no longer picked up, but if there is a certain local collection point, it can be dropped off there.
