The screen is the king of the living room as long as it works. As soon as it gives itself up, it is e-waste and should be treated separately: not for the selective trash, not for the litter. Old image tubes (CRTs) can hide a lot of lead, older LCDs can hide mercury.

CRT (image-tube): lead-containing glass (in the funnel and neck glass), copper, steel, plastic. An older CRT monitor can hold ~1 to 3 kg of lead. LCD/LED: glass panel, printed circuits, plastic casing; the CCFL backlight of earlier LCDs has mercury contained, but the newer LED backlight no longer.

Never in the communal or selective trash! TV/monitor = electronic waste. Drop-off free of charge: MOHU electronic collection points/waste yards; In Budapest, the waste type finder also helps (monitor, TV can be dropped).
